    Introduction

Ac & Dc Motors used for particular Industrial Drive applications depend on some consideration E.g. Starting torque, starting current, speed control,Duty (light ,medium , heavy), nature of speed and environment.Industrial Drive application motors always depend on their work . And speed and torque are also factors of Industrial Drive.

How a Ac & Dc motor selected for specific application

First calculate the total required torque for a particular application of Industrial Drive Then find, Is the application required High Starting torque or not . Then the check available of power supply which means that If a particular place use DC supply then the selected motor will be operated With DC supply if not then choose AC Motors. very much need to check speed control procedure.Atlast check performance and install for Particular application of AC & DC Motor In Industrial Drive.

    High Starting Torque motor

First we need to know that Some Ac & Dc Motors have a very high Starting speed .And the basis of relation speed and torque is always Inversely proportional. So a High Starting speed motor will use a gearbox that acts like a High Starting Torque Motor.E.g. DC series motor and universal motor.  Dc series Motor Torque Armature Current almost same with Cumulative Compound Motor . So it is considered a High Starting motor . If  We make an ascending order chart for Higher starting torque for DC.

    • DC Series Motor ⬇️
    • DC Shunt Motor ⬇️
    • DC Cumulative Compound Motor⬇️

In Case of an AC  motor, the Slip ring Induction Motor is very High Starting Torque Compared to Squirrel Cage Induction Motor. Because for the Slip ring and the Slip ring Resistance control Method is to help the induction motor High Starting in Industrial Drive

Synchronous Motor Have no Starting Torque because This motor is not self Starting. Prime mover Move the Armature . Then Run as a Induction Motor .After 80% of speed DC supply apply in Rotor The motor Run as Synchronous motor.Moral of the story is Induction Motor is Most flexible and reliable Motor with less Disadvantages.

    Advantages of AC Motor

    • Our 90% Power Supply is AC Power supply ,so AC Motor Installed Wherever

    • Less maintenance

    • Can work longer life

    Advantages of DC Motor

    • Loss is very less ,if Compare with AC it can be neglected

    • Various Speed Control method

    • High Speed operation Done Well

    Disadvantage of AC motor
    Loss Is High

    • Speed Control Process arrangement is very costly

    • High Speed Operating not done well because of slip

    Disadvantage of DC motor

    •  Our 90% power supply is AC.If you want to run a DC motor ,you need an arrangement of DC supply.

Which speed control method used in industrial drive Motors?

Various type of speed control method use in Ac &Dc Motors. The speed control method depends upon their nature of supply and types of Dc motor .
E.g. Dc Shunt Motor available speed control method is flux control , armature control, voltage control. A series motor speed control method is flux control , Tapped field Control armature resistance control.

DC Shunt Motor Speed Control method

    Flux Control Method

This method is also known as the armature current control method with rheostat. A rheostat can be used  between shunt field and armature. At first of give brief information about speed control we need to understand a Equation of shunt motor  that is N∝ 1/Φ .'. Ia =Φ . Here we can see If current armature will be controlled then flux will be controlled and the result will reflect on speed. The rheostat changes the resistance of the shunt  field with respect to the armature field and tends to change field flux for the purpose of controlling the speed.

    Armature control method

A variable resistance or variac is insert with armature .The variable resistance countrol the back emf . We know armature resistance is list number of resistance of whole DC motor system so variable resistance Increase the total armature resistance and then voltage drop also reduce . However this is reflect speed of the induction motor. Here we have a Equation N∝ Eb in this equation we directly seen the what will happen.

DC Shunt Motor Speed Control method
    Flux Control Method
Flux Control Method mainly three types
    a) Field diverters
Here this method a voltage devider is connected parallel with series field. This method aims that control the field current and that reflects the flux. We know dc series at starting very High speed so this method prevent this problem. This method is very popular in Railway traction system.
    b) armature devider
This method a armature devider is connected parallel with armature . This devider Control armature current and that reflects speed.
    c) Tapped field Control
This method controls speed through tappings in the field. This tapping control the field resistance as well as flux and speed.

    Induction Motor Speed Control method

We this popular equation is Ns=120f/P
basis of of this equation pole changing method and Frequency Control method can change the Synchronous speed of motor . And voltage controlis Direct method . But most industrial drive very popular Frequency Control method. Because it can control precious speed as per requirement. Very flexible speed control method.
    a) Pole changing method
    b)Voltage control method
    c) Frequency control method

    Theory

This is a brief chart of Ac & Dc Motor which motor used which type of work and. The application of each motor is based on their own characteristics.

Some time we need in the industrial Drive sector if any motor malfunctions which motor can be used as an alternative. Generally drilling machines use a universal motor but here alternatively we can use a DC series motor instead of a universal motor. AC & DC motor in Industrial Drive application motor Generally use high torque and low speed motor is needed otherwise Ac & Dc motor can run along with the gear arrangement. In most industrial Drive applications induction motor is the first priority because . It can easily start with a high starting torque and mostly it run AC supply which makes this motor more reliable.

    Conclusion

Many competitive exams ask us to use for Industrial Drive motors application wise. That is why we make this chart related Ac & Dc Motor .
